This study investigates the pivotal roles of internal audit effectiveness and sustainable innovation in advancing sustainability assurance practices. The research employs a cross-sectional design, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and correlational analysis. The necessary data were collected through a questionnaire from 396 financial managers at various levels in manufacturing companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 26 and Smart PLS software. The analysis utilized hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling through statistical software for social sciences. The findings reveal that internal audit effectiveness and sustainable innovation significantly enhance sustainability assurance across various environmental, social, and governance dimensions, emphasizing the need for robust internal audit frameworks and innovative, sustainability-focused practices. Conversely, audit standards demonstrated an insignificant negative impact on sustainability assurance, indicating a fundamental misalignment between existing audit guidelines and broader sustainability objectives. These results align with stakeholder and agency theories, which stress the importance of aligning organizational practices with stakeholder expectations and addressing principal-agent conflicts to achieve sustainability goals.
